The problem
Kaypear required a sophisticated online portal for engineers and clients to perform complex process safety calculations, specifically focusing on API 2000 standard tank design calculations (fire relief and breathing). They needed a reliable platform to gather structured input data via wizard forms, execute backend mathematical computations seamlessly, and maintain parity between user inputs and database records. Additionally, Kaypear needed robust organizational structuring (projects, folders, batches), and advanced PDF reporting with QR code verification.
The solution
Developed a comprehensive Tank Design Portal within Odoo. The solution features a robust front-end portal for process safety calculations, utilizing QWeb templates and Python backend logic to execute company-provided API 2000 engineering math. Integrated a live UI input audit tool to guarantee data integrity. Built a complete hierarchical organization system utilizing Folder and Batch structures for managing multiple tank designs, chemical datasets, and unit conversions, alongside comprehensive PDF report generation with annexures and QR code accessibility.
Implementation
- Designed and built the Kaypear Tank Design Portal using Odoo's QWeb templating engine.
- Integrated company-provided API 2000 standard calculation logic (Environmental Factor, Heat Absorbed, Relief Rate) into the Python backend.
- Implemented a real-time UI Input Audit Tool within the wizard forms to trace and validate engineering inputs against database records.
- Developed a hierarchical Folder and Batch structure to systematically organize client projects and tank designs.
- Introduced stage-based lifecycle management and bulk approval workflows for efficient processing of design records.
- Implemented soft delete (archiving) functionality to ensure safe data management and recovery.
- Designed comprehensive custom PDF Reports and detailed calculation Annexures featuring dynamic watermarks for status indication and IP protection.
- Integrated QR code generation capabilities for instant, secure access to design documentation.
- Built a robust client portal ecosystem including user sign-up requests, member invitations, and a dedicated support ticketing system.
- Developed centralized models for managing Chemical properties, Departments, and precise Unit Conversions.
