About the client
Flintu is an innovation-driven technology company focused on creating practical consumer electronics that solve everyday challenges. Best known for Sidekick, its compact backup charger and portable storage device, Flintu combines thoughtful design with real-world functionality to keep users connected wherever they go. Built for convenience, mobility, and reliability, the company's products reflect a commitment to making everyday technology simpler, smarter, and more useful for people on the move.
The problem
Flintu required a self-managed Odoo Enterprise infrastructure that would provide complete control over deployment, version management, and production operations. The company wanted to separate development and production environments, implement a structured Git-based workflow for customizations, migrate to a fresh Odoo instance without legacy data, and gain sufficient technical knowledge to independently manage their production environment while still having access to expert development support when required.
The solution
Designed and deployed a self-hosted Odoo Enterprise architecture on AWS with separate development and production environments. The solution included AWS EC2 instances, AWS RDS PostgreSQL, GitHub repositories for Community, Enterprise, and custom modules, and a deployment workflow that enabled controlled development, testing, validation, and production releases. Comprehensive documentation and knowledge transfer were also provided to support independent infrastructure management.
Implementation
- Installed and configured Odoo Enterprise on Ubuntu LTS.
- Configured AWS EC2 application servers and AWS RDS PostgreSQL database.
- Established Git-based version control using separate repositories for Community, Enterprise, and custom add-ons.
- Configured custom add-on deployment workflow.
- Set up DNS, SSL, server services, and environment configuration.
- Created detailed installation and deployment documentation using Google Docs for ongoing maintenance.
- Assisted with production replication strategy to ensure the client could independently manage production deployments.
- Provided ongoing technical consulting for server administration, email configuration, and deployment best practices.
Results
- Successfully deployed a scalable self-hosted Odoo Enterprise environment.
- Established a structured development-to-production deployment workflow.
- Improved change tracking through Git-based version control.
- Enabled independent production server management by the client.
- Reduced deployment risks through isolated development and validation environments.
- Established an ongoing technical support and development engagement model.
What made it unique
- Fully self-managed Odoo Enterprise deployment instead of relying on managed hosting.
- Separate development and production environments with controlled migration process.
- Git-driven deployment strategy for all customizations.
- Complete infrastructure ownership retained by the client.
- Detailed documentation and knowledge transfer enabling long-term self-sufficiency.
- Flexible hourly support model for both development and technical consulting.
